Money does grow on this tree
09 January 2007
Although parents regularly tell their children that money does not grow on trees, it appears that they may be wrong when it comes to one in Thailand.
People have been flocking from all over the country, and indeed the world, to see the banana tree.
Although cash is not actually sprouting from the branches of the tree, locals say that it is capable of predicting the winning lottery numbers, reports the Phuket Gazette.
A mixture of powder and water is rubbed into the tree trunk then people watch to decipher which number the mixture resembles most as it dries.
Many people claim that they have won big financial prizes as a result of using the numbers conjured up by the tree and some even return to pay their respects.
The tree, which is situated in Koh Sireh, has sparked a mini-tourism industry, with local vendors reporting that hundreds of people are visiting every day.
