Beatrix Potter's home is closed
11 January 2007
Thousands of visitors are expected to visit Beatrix Potter's Lake District home in England following the release of a film about the writer.
However, local authorities have angered many people by closing Hill Top House at the time of the film's release.
Every year the house is closed by the National Trust for essential winter conservation work.
With the release of Miss Potter, staring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, generating huge interest in the story behind the great writer, many saw this as a wonderful opportunity for the area to cash in.
'It's a bit ridiculous that the house is closed at a time when people will be wanting to go and see it,' one disappointed tourist told the North-West Evening Mail.
Hill Top House is already very popular among tourists from around the world, attracting thousands of people every year since it opened to the public in 1946.
The house is set to reopen on Saturday 3 March.
