Venice the place to be in February
23 January 2007
The highlight of the year for one of the worlds leading culture capitals is fast approaching, with the Venice Carnival being just weeks away.
Renowned for its traditional masked balls and elaborate costumes, this years' festival begins on 9 February and runs until 20 February.
Attractions include music, theatre, acrobatic and dance performances as the famous sites of Venice spring into life.
The carnival takes on an aristocratic feel, as there are numerous masked balls, brunches in period costume and gala dinners to attend throughout the two week period.
Add to that the thousands of street performers, music and food, amidst one of the world's most truly stunning back drops and you have the makings of one of the finest street festivals on the planet.
The opening day of the festival will be known as 'Venice Day', with live music including the Band of Venice, to end "a truly Venetian day", as the festivals website describes.
