St Patrick's day parade expected to attract thousands
23 January 2007

Over 1.5m people are expected to celebrate St Patrick's Day in Dublin this year, 40,000 of which will be tourists.

The annual festival lasts from 15 March to 19 March with the main attraction being the Festival Parade which takes place on 17 March, beginning on O'Connell Street.

Also expected are both Irish and international bands, street theatres, comedy performers, fireworks and even a treasure hunt.

Local shops and businesses also get involved, as many turn their shop fronts into art exhibitions for the duration of the festival.

The beauty of the festival is that most of the events are free, and provide an excellent family day out. If the 4,000 performers that are expected to attend are not enough, once the children are in bed, the adults can be sure to find a non-stop celebration throughout the festival in one of Dublin's numerous pubs or cafes.
