Holidays on the rise
24 January 2007
British travellers are planning more trips abroad in 2007, according to the latest research.
A survey, carried out by American Express Insurance Services, found that British people intend to travel overseas more regularly this year.
It signals the third consecutive year of growth in this field, with an average five per cent increase compared to last year.
Weekend breaks are also set to rise in popularity, with Brits said to be planning 12 per cent more short breaks than in 2006.
'Not only are Britons planning more trips both here and abroad, but they are booking more independently than last year,' said Joanne Field from American Express.
However, Ms Field warns that travellers should not forget about the important security measures that should be put in place ahead of any trip.
'For any traveller, but particularly frequent or independent travellers where the cost of the insurance is not included in the tour package, buying annual insurance is not only cost effective, but it ensures they are protected for cancellation and curtailment from the moment they book a trip,' she said.
'It also allows them to capitalise on last minute deals knowing that they are protected,' added Ms Field.
