Snake spa in Israel
29 January 2007
Travellers taking a holiday in Israel can now enjoy a special kind of spa treatment which is not for the feint-hearted.
Ada Barak's spa in the north of the country is offering its guests the chance to be massaged by snakes.
It may not sound like the most relaxing of experiences, but Ms Barak says that once her customers get over the fear associated with the creatures, they find it to be extremely soothing.
For around £35, Ms Barak will release six non-venomous snakes onto the backs of her customers and allow them to slither around.
It is said to have a therapeutic effect on aching muscles and stiff joints and those who have experienced the treatment are singing its praises.
'I'm actually afraid of snakes,' customer Liz Cohen told Reuters. 'But the therapeutic effects are really good.'
Ms Barak is adamant that physical contact with snakes is extremely soothing and she chooses to use Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes for the treatment.
