Airline forced to change 'unlucky' logo
22 February 2007
A new Belgian airline has been forced to change its logo after superstitious passengers complained that it was bad luck.
The airline had originally approved the design by Ronane Hoet, which included the letter 'b' made up of thirteen circles.
Officials were satisfied that the logo fitted well with the company's image, with the 13 dots representing the 13 African nations which it provides a service to.
However, a number of customers in the US and Italy complained that the legend would bring bad luck to the aircrafts it was painted on.
'They said they were not pleased with an aircraft with a logo with 13 balls because they think it brings them bad luck," Geert Sciot, a spokesman for the airline, told the Canadian Press.
Designer Mr Hoet was stumped, saying: 'We are never surprised by reactions - but that it was that bad? It really took us aback.'
The airline has now changed the logo so that it is made up of 14 dots, a number which should keep those of a superstitious disposition satisfied.
