Vietnam's Sea Festival
23 February 2007

The Vietnamese city of Danang is to host a Sea Festival for the first time in July.

Officials in the region have revealed plans to host the event, which they hope will boost visitor numbers.

The festival will form part of a long list of cultural activities that are planned in Vietnam as the country seeks to establish itself as a popular international tourist destination.

Among the events that authorities have confirmed will take place are fashion and cooking shows, cultural exhibitions and other sea-related activities centred on the beach in Danang and Han River.

One of the biggest attractions will be an international sailboat race which is due to take place in September.

The planned Sea Festival is the first to take place in Danang but other Vietnamese provinces have previously hosted similar events and continue to do so.

Khanh Hoa held its first festival in 2005 and plans to hold another between April and May this year.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau hosted its first Sea Festival in 2006.
