Lapland may be a popular tourist destination in the winter months, as people flock to the Finnish region in a bid to catch a glimpse of Father Christmas, but now officials want visitors to experience the delights of Lapland in the summer.

The Finnish Tourist Board is promoting summer holidays in the region, with the focus moving away from snow and onto the incredible amount of sunshine that can be experienced.

During the summer months Lapland is awash with sunlight, even offering visitors the chance to experience a sun-kissed midnight.

'Lapland in summer is just as amazing as in winter, although its attraction is so different,' enthused Anne Lind, director of the Finnish Tourist Board.

'For several weeks in June and July the sun never sets below the horizon, creating an atmosphere of energy that does away with being tired and promotes activity and enjoyment.

'Anyone who has seen Lapland wearing its thick white winter coat should come and take a look at how different it is during those warm, endless days of summer,' she added.

The people of Lapland are as keen to welcome visitors during the summer as they are in the winter and with the endless sunshine there is always something to do.

An outdoor midsummer festival is held, while the region's fantastic array of animals also come out to play.

Lapland is blessed with brown bears, wolverine, elk, and reindeer.
