Highland Games in Kansas
06 March 2007

The Highland Games is a fantastic event and one which is developing an international following.

That explains why the official world championships for Highland heavy athletes aged 40 and over is taking place in McPherson, Kansas.

Contestants will arrive from all over the world to take part in the games, with men and women welcome to join the fun.

Entrants must kit themselves out in traditional Scottish dress and they will be required to compete in a number of events.

Among the most hotly anticipated fields are tossing the caber and throwing the Scottish hammer.

The Highland games will be taking place as part of the 2007 McPherson Scottish Festival and organisers are excited by the prospect of hosting the event.

'The festival is pleased to host two such prestigious masters athletic events - a world and a national,' said festival chairman John Ferrell.

'We expect to see 80 to 100 athletes from the US and indeed around the world. In fact, two registrants from Norway are already signed up.'

This year's McPherson Scottish Festival is the 14th of its kind and will take place over 22 to 23 September.
