Bournemouth is Britain's best
09 March 2007
Holidaymakers considering a trip to the UK may wish to pay a visit to Bournemouth after the seaside town was voted the happiest place in the country.
A survey by First Direct bank found that those who live in Bournemouth and those who visit find it to be the most uplifting place in the UK.
It is praised for its golden beaches, bustling town centre and fantastic award-winning gardens.
In addition, more than four in five residents say that they are completely satisfied with their town and it probably helps to have seven miles of beaches to wake up to every morning.
Bournemouth is also rated highly for its surrounding countryside and the wide range of sporting activities on offer, meaning it offers something for the younger and older visitor.
'This is fantastic news. Making people happy is what this resort is all about and why people want to spend time here,' Mark Smith, Bournemouth's head of tourism, told the Dorset Daily Echo.
'Bournemouth is a fun destination which is the reason why people want to come and spend time here, even if just for a few days. It's nice to hear that local residents really appreciate being here as well.'
Local councillor Ron Whittaker was equally delighted with the news and highlighted Bournemouth's Stour Valley as the town's leading attraction.
