American Airlines woos the female jet set
10 April 2007
American Airlines has launched an online web portal expressly for its female customers, AA.com/women.
The area on the company's website covers issues thought to be of special interest to women passengers, including advice on safety while travelling and a discussion forum where the experiences of other female passengers are aired.
After finding that 35% of women who booked travel with the airline in the last year did so online, American Airlines is keen to trap this online community of women customers and maximise the spending power they represent.
'This is a great opportunity to recognise the achievements of women, let them know we are listening to them, and demonstrate through AA.com/women that we value their business,' commented Peggy Sterling, the airline's vice president of safety, security and environmental policy.
The new site fits into a growing drive on the part of major customer-facing organisations to personalise and refine customer experiences.
As it celebrates becoming the first airline in the world to tailor a site sector specifically for female flyers, American Airlines has teamed up with the Wyndham Hotels chain to offer women discounted spa stays until the end of the year.
