Madonna in line-up for UK's Live Earth
10 April 2007

Headliners for the Live Earth concert at Wembley will include Madonna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, organisers have confirmed.

Modelled on the 2005 Live 8 anti-poverty concerts held worldwide, the set of seven global events held simultaneously aims to heighten awareness of climate change and propel politicians into action.

The 24-hour non-stop event will attract online, TV and radio audiences of two billion, organisers hope.

US environmental campaigner Al Gore is spearheading the campaign.

'By attracting an audience of billions, we hope Live Earth will launch a global campaign giving a critical mass of people around the world the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis,' Mr Gore remarked.

Other acts at the Wembley arena will include the Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran, the Foo Fighters and Snow Patrol, as hundreds of acts take the stage at the other venues in Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo, Johannesburg, and Rio de Janeiro.

The Rio de Janeiro event will take place on Copacabana Beach, while songs for Shanghai crowds will ring out from the steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower.
