Glamour set descends on Monaco for racing season
16 April 2007
Formula One comes home later this month when the series of 17 races reaches its climax in the glamour-saturated Riviera principality of Monaco.
Between May 24th and 27th the racing event will complement the range of diversions the city has to offer the privileged visitor not least the infamous casino, where gamers are lured by mind-boggling stakes.
Meanwhile, the port at Monte Carlo is awash with luxury yachts during the Formula One season, the blue of the ocean offsetting the Mediterranean tan of the global jet-set.
Back on dry land, visitors seated in the Grand Prix grandstand will watch as drivers put their motors through their paces during 77 laps of the winding city streets.
While speeds are kept down in the 80 mph on these historic roads, there is no more fitting backdrop for the competition than the Bond-evoking glamour of the city, which first hosted the event in the Roaring Twenties.
And of course, the apres-race nightlife is enriched by the presence of notables patronising the Hotel de Paris or the Grand, or dropping in across the border from Nice.
