Dollar hits all-time low
18 April 2007
Foreign travellers who plan to visit the US in the near future are being encouraged to convert their spending money now as the dollar hits an all-time low.
British travellers are specifically being targeted as the Great British pound is currently worth $2.
Leading foreign exchange firms have already reported a surge in the number of people converting their currency and the trend is expected to continue as long as the dollar remains low.
'This is a significant milestone in the relationship between the US dollar and the pound,' commented Anthony Wagerman from foreign exchange specialist Travelex.
'This is great news for British travellers and we have already experienced a significant increase in demand for US dollars particularly online.
'Whilst the Euro remains the number one selling currency in the UK market, there's a good chance that the dollar may temporarily knock it off the top spot as transatlantic travellers from the UK cash in,' he added.
The pound has not been worth $2 since 1992 when the UK suffered a huge financial crash on what has become known as Black Wednesday.
