Aquanaut has holiday under water
19 April 2007
A man in Australia has taken a holiday with a difference when he spent two weeks under water.
Lloyd Godson, a marine biologist, decided that rather than sitting in the sun for two weeks he wanted to spend his holiday under water in the wetlands on the border between New South Wales and Victoria.
The 29-year-old pedalled a bike beneath the water to generate electricity, used algae to produce oxygen and even grew some of his own vegetables.
Godson says that he rarely got lonely as he had access to the internet and was speaking to people all over the world but he does admit that there were a few difficulties along the way.
'There's equipment things, you've always got little issues with equipment, but we had a fantastic team up here who were able to resolve all those issues pretty promptly,' he told ABC News Online.
'We were constantly making improvements to things that were going on down there and trying to optimise my living conditions.'
After resurfacing, Godson said that he had no regrets and would jump at the chance to do it again.
