Virgin snaps up Boeing Dreamliners
24 April 2007
Virgin Atlantic Airways is continuing its recent trend of ordering huge aeroplanes with the order of 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
The huge aircraft are second only to the Airbus A380 which Virgin has also put its name down for.
Virgin's order of 787-9s is the largest of any European airline and the firm has an option to order another eight.
The new Boeing is capable of holding up to 290 passengers and is said to be a big step forward for the aviation industry when it comes to environmental issues.
'Virgin Atlantic is totally focused on delivering a cleaner airline in the air and on the ground, and our order today will significantly cut carbon emissions per 787 Dreamliner flight,' commented Virgin chairman Sir Richard Branson.
'With this dynamic new plane, our customers will get the world's best customer service onboard combined with world-class engineering throughout.
'The 787 Dreamliner symbolises the environmentally-kinder aircraft of the future cleaner, quieter, lighter and truly the best experience in the air,' he added.
Virgin Atlantic is due to receive its new jets in 2011.
