Women rule in Chinese town
26 April 2007

A region in China is being advertised to tourists as the first ever "women's town" where women rule and men obey.

Officials in the Longshuihu village, Chongqing, are inviting tourists to pay a visit and see what life is like.

Plans are in place to invest around £13m into the infrastructure of the town and authorities are looking at ways to raise that money.

'We welcome investors from overseas and nationwide to invest in our project,' an unnamed tourism official told Reuters.

'Traditional women dominate and men have to be obedient in the areas of Sichuan province and Chongqing, and now we are using it as an idea to attract tourists and boost tourism.'

The town has a motto, which sums up exactly how things work there: 'Women never make mistakes and men can never refuse women's requests.'

Work began on the project back in 2005 and it is hoped that it will be finished within the next year to three years.
