Olympics will benefit all of Asia
03 May 2007
Asia and, more specifically, China will witness a huge boost to tourism in the wake of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
That is according to a new report which states that the influx of foreign visitors during the games will lead to people exploring further the surrounding areas, reports the Xinhua news agency.
As thousands of people descend on Beijing during the month-long event, they will be given a taste of China and Asia and experts believe that this will lead to them wishing to experience more of the continent's culture.
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) and Visa International Asia Pacific have worked together to carry out research which fund that many visitors are already planning to travel around either before during or after the Olympics.
Of those questioned, nearly nine in ten of those intending to visit Beijing said that they will travel to other Chinese cities if they have time.
In addition, three out of four plan to visit another destination as part of their trip.
It means that surrounding countries will benefit from the games and many tourists are likely to fall in love with the region and become regular visitors.
'All markets in the region stand to benefit from the Games,' said Peter de Jong, president of Pata.
