Lake District awards
04 May 2007

Businesses in the Lake District have been honoured for their hard work in keeping the region as the UK's number one tourist destination.

A special ceremony has been held to reward those who have contributed to tourism in the region, with a number of individuals being honoured alongside firms.

The 2007 Cumbria Tourism Awards ceremony was held at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal and was a fantastic night for all involved.

The event was presided over by local TV personality Tim Backshall and many people walked away extremely pleased.

The Lake District has been popular among both foreign and British tourists for many, many years and is often referred to as the Lakes.

It is home to some of the most stunning, naturally beautiful landscapes in the country and has a deep affiliation with many of the world's greatest writers.

The likes of William Wordsworth, Thomas Gray, John Keats and Beatrix Potter all have an association with the region.
