Sri Lanka stops night time flights
09 May 2007
Holidaymakers travelling to and from Sri Lanka may face disruption to their flights following a security scare.
Officials at the country's only airport have taken the decision to close the hub after dark.
Bandaranaike airport, in the country's capital Colombo, will be closed at night after a number of raids by Tamil Tiger rebels.
It means that those flying in or out of the airport may have their flights delayed or moved to a different time of day.
Airlines are working to rearrange their schedules, with a number having already switched to daytime flights only.
The new operating times for the hub are 04:00 (local time) to 22:00 (local time). This translates to 22:30 BST and 17:30 BST.
A number of flights have recently been diverted to the nearby Indian city of Chennai.
