Rare alligator attracting attention
14 May 2007

Tourists visiting Tennessee, USA, are being invited to visit a zoo that is housing a rare animal.

Alligators may not be the rarest of beasts, however, one unnamed creature at Knoxville Zoo is attracting a lot of attention.

Employees at the zoo say that people are travelling from far and wide to see the animal which is albino, reports the Associated Press.

The alligator has to be kept indoors to protect its skin from the sun and spends most of its days sitting beneath a heat lamp.

It enjoys as much freedom as is possible however, and workers at the zoo says that it gets to exercise and enjoys swimming in the pool.

The alligator is to be named by visitors as part of a competition but he is not the only albino in the region.

In fact, Knoxville Zoo says that it is often offered albino alligators by a local farmer who gets them from a male and female couple.

'Every few years we get a call. "Come get your albinos". We go out there and get the albinos. We may get six or eight a trip,' revealed David Kledzik from the zoo.
