£100m Savoy makeover
15 May 2007

One of London's most famous hotels is to undergo a period of renovation and restoration.

The Savoy, which is internationally known as one of the world's best hotels, will be subject to a project of internal restoration that will cost around £100m.

That price tag makes the work one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken in London and the hotel will be closed until 2009.

Plans include the upgrading of the famous Savoy suites that overlook the River Thames, renovation of guest rooms and public areas as well as the reopening of the world-famous River Restaurant.

While lots of work will take place in updating the hotel, its owners have promised that it will maintain its traditional feel.

'For us, the most important thing was to honour the art deco heritage and traditional English design of the hotel, while upgrading the property to meet the expectations of today's most discerning guests,' revealed Kiaran MacDonald, general manager of the Savoy.

'When the Savoy reopens we hope to set new British standards for excellence in design, decor and personalised service.'
