New Zealand has more day time
18 May 2007

Anyone who has visited New Zealand will tell you that there is nothing better than seeing the country for yourself.

So it is welcome news that the country's government is effectively making the days longer.

It is extending the date the clocks go back, making the travel season longer. Now it will begin in September, one week earlier than previously and then will not end until 27 weeks later in April.

The move has been welcomed by most people in New Zealand, particularly those who work in the tourism industry.

Hugh Packer, manager of specialist tour operator in New Zealand Talpacific Holidays, said the new times would mean that the tourist season could be spread into autumn and spring time.

'Not only will tourists enjoy better availability and keener pricing than the traditional peak months of November to February, but it will also take some pressure off New Zealand's infrastructure and resources,' he said.

'Besides which, autumn and spring are beautiful times to visit New Zealand.'
