Life's a beach in Denmark
21 May 2007

Denmark might not be the best known European destination for beaches but the country's tourist board is inviting people to bask in its recent glory.

Over 200 beaches in Denmark have been recognised by the EU Blue Environmental Flag scheme, with the water quality, environmental efforts, safety and facilities of them being praised.

This makes Denmark the European country with the most Blue Flag beaches per mile of coast.

The country boasts over 7,000 kilometres of coastline and during the summer months the currents of the Gulf Stream heat the water to a pleasurable 22 degrees.

Danish people will tell you that the most popular beaches in the country lie between Skagen at the northern tip of Jutland and Romo on the West Jutland coast.

In addition, the East Jutland or Mild Coast is growing in popularity every year and Denmark is fast becoming a sunshine holiday destination for all the family.
