Manchester hub gets new terminal
22 May 2007
Manchester airport is to give its main terminal a multi-million pound makeover.
Authorities have given the go-ahead for a radical redevelopment of Terminal One, which bosses say will see the area turned into one of the UK's largest airside shopping centres.
Costing an estimated £35m, the new makeover comes following a massive study into the behaviour of passengers.
The study looked at the way passengers moved and how they spoke when arriving at the airport and used this information to gauge their state of mind.
Using these findings, airport officials have planned the layout of the new terminal to maximise passenger enjoyment.
'We're very in touch with our passengers' needs and we're very excited about the start of work of this new, specially designed airport experience,' said Andrew Harrison from Manchester airport.
'Passengers are increasingly looking for a highly-professional and strategically designed retail, drinking and dining experience when they come through the airport and this latest investment will deliver against increased expectations.'
One of the key findings of the research was that passengers feel stressed when passing through security and so the new terminal will have more security check points to speed up the process.
