Coffee tours in northern Nicaragua
22 May 2007

A new tour of the coffee plantations in Nicaragua has been established and is set to attract massive interest from foreign visitors.

The country's minister of tourism has officially launched the Coffee Route which officials hope will develop tourism and bring financial stability to the northern regions.

In addition to the plantations, ministers have vowed to invest £500,000 into specific regions so that ethnic, ecological, adventure, educative and cultural tourism can also be developed.

Small and medium-sized companies in the north of Nicaragua will also receive training and technical qualifications in tourism to further support their development as the government launches a big tourism drive.

The north of the country is blessed with outstanding natural beauty and diverse wildlife but is now set to thrive as a tourist destination due to the investment of funds.

The Coffee Route project is due to take place over a four-year period beginning in 2007.
