Waxwork of British prince is green
24 May 2007
One of London's most famous tourist attractions has installed a waxwork model that is not only very accurate but also has green credentials.
Madame Tussauds has updated its model of Prince Charles and has used environmentally-friendly methods to reflect his efforts to tackle climate change.
Workers have melted down a previous model of Charles, using the materials to create the new one.
They have also added 37kg of organic beeswax and 25kg of clay and fibre glass. Even the colouring has been done environmentally, using organic pigments.
'The Prince of Wales is a major champion of green issues and we always aim to be up to date with how we portray the figures,' revealed Ben Lovett, a spokesman for Madame Tussauds.
In addition to the materials used, workers also continued the green theme by working only with their hands, rather than machinery and doing the job during the day to cut down on electricity.
All meetings about the model were attended on bike and trees have been planted in Cornwall to offset any carbon emissions.
The new Prince Charles model is part of a new £1m royal family exhibition at Madame Tussauds.
