Tourist didn't think nude was rude
24 May 2007

An American tourist had clearly failed to do his research before going on holiday in Germany when he was caught walking around the streets of Nuremburg completely naked.

The unnamed man caused quite a stir as he strolled around in the buff and when police approached him he said that he thought public nudity was acceptable in Germany.

'We have been having unusually hot weather here lately but, all the same, we can't have this,' a spokesman for Nuremburg Police told Reuters.

'The man said he thought walking around naked was tolerated in Germany.'

The 41-year-old was told to put his clothes back on, which he was holding in his bag, and ordered to pay a £135 fine.

Although nudity is not permitted in the streets, German law does tolerate nude sunbathing in public parks.
