Snakes on a plane
25 May 2007

It was a case of life imitating art when a man tried to sneak snakes on a plane.

Unlike the Samuel L Jackson movie, Egyptian Yahia Rahim Tulba was prevented from boarding the flight and was arrested by airport security.

He apparently tried to get through customs at Cairo's airport with 700 live snakes with the intention of selling them in Saudi Arabia.

Security staff told Mr Tulba that they wanted to search his bag and he told them to be careful as it contained snakes.

He then revealed that he planned to sell them as they are in demand in Saudi Arabia although it is unclear how much the animals are worth.

The snakes were confiscated and Mr Tulba was handed over to the prosecutor's office for attempting to endanger the lives of passengers and violating export laws.
