Chasing the cheese in Gloucestershire
29 May 2007

One of the biggest social events in Gloucestershire's social calendar took place on 28 May and only 20 people were treated for injuries.

Cooper's Hill in Brockworth, England, is the site for the event which sees dozens of people running down a very steep hill in pursuit of a big cheese.

Every year people gather at the top of the hill for the race and risk life and limb as they hurtle down the slope in search of glory.

A massive seven to eight-pound Double Gloucester circle of cheese is sent rolling down the hill and competitors follow it as fast as they can.

The slope was, as ever, rather slippery and injuries at the event are not uncommon. This year however, officials said that only 20 people needed medical treatment - the lowest number for years.

The eventual winner was 25-year-old Jason Crowther who admitted that he does not really like cheese very much at all.
