Carnival on St Lucia
12 June 2007

St Lucia is gearing up for the highlight of its social calendar as Carnival comes to town.

The Caribbean island will become a swathe of colour and music during the celebrations which run from June right into July.

Officials are promising that this year's event will be bigger and better than ever and more than 3,000 people are expected to attend.

The top attractions at Carnival include the crowing of the Carnival King and Queen, which takes place during the Calypso Monarch Finals, a steel band competition during the Panorama Championships and the world famous Street Parade.

Carnival celebrations lead up to the Street Parade which takes place on 16 July and 17 July, with anyone who is anyone dressing up in fantastic colourful costumes and dancing along to the wide array of music that is on offer.

The celebrations continue for an entire month, with locals and foreign tourists joining together to mark the coming of Carnival.
