Scotland's Botanic Garden gets £1m boost
14 September 2007

Scotland's Royal Botanic Garden is preparing itself to welcome more visitors after development work received a £1m funding boost.

The additional financing will allow work to begin on a £16m visitor centre at the tourist attraction.

One of the features of the construction will be a glass wall to give visitors the impression of being outside in the garden surroundings.

Wind turbines, a biomass boiler and rainwater collection will also be incorporated into the visitor centre to ensure that it is as sustainable as possible.

Covering 2,746 square metres, the building will be almost double the size of the existing structures at the Botanic Gardens' West Gate.

It will include live video links with scientists working on conservation projects in 40 countries and displays of rare and endangered plants.
