Sydney 'world's top city destination'
11 October 2007
Sydney is the world's premier destination for city holidays, according to the Conde Nast Traveller 2007 reader awards.
The Australian city was praised for being friendly and having a pleasant atmosphere.
It was rated ahead of Italian city Florence, San Francisco on the west coast of North America and Thailand's capital Bangkok.
The only other Australian city to appear in the Conde Nast Traveller list was Melbourne.
Fran Bailey, federal tourism minister, told the Sydney Morning Herald that the result was a 'well-deserved win'.
She added: 'Sydney is an international gateway for tourists.
'First stop is often Sydney, but then they visit other great cities such as Melbourne and regional areas such as the beautiful Yarra Valley.'
