Virgin prepares for launch to Mauritius
25 October 2007
Virgin Atlantic will launch its first non-stop flight to Mauritius on 28 October, which will leave Heathrow in the evening to land on the island the following morning.
Upon its arrival, the Airbus A340-300 will be greeted by a water salute by the airport fire brigade and passengers will be welcomed by a local Creole band.
A total of 240 seats will be available on the twice-weekly flights, 34 of which will be in upper class suites, with a further 35 in premium economy class and 171 in economy.
Virgin Atlantic's upper class offering consists of a reclining seat for take-off, a three-course meal, the longest flat flight bed in the world and a private onboard bar.
Andrew Fyfe, the carrier's regional manager for the Middle East and Indian Ocean, said: 'I am really excited that Virgin Atlantic is to serve this beautiful island, our first destination in the Indian Ocean. Mauritius offers a range of relaxing spa centres and elegant hotels.
'Passengers will be spoilt for choice by the range of top class hotels, fine dining opportunities, excellent water sports and world-class golf courses on this tropical paradise.'
Mauritius is Virgin Atlantic's 29th international destination, with its 30th, Kingston in Jamaica, also set to be launched this week.
