Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) will launch a new service from Bristol airport to Oslo in Norway from 1 April next year.

The return route will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and represents a growing Scandinavian network from the south-west hub.

During summer this year SAS operated a service from Bristol to Stockholm, the success of which prompted the new Oslo service.

Lars-Ove Filipson, UK and Ireland general manager of SAS, said: 'We have been delighted by the success of the summer SAS Bristol to Stockholm service which launched earlier this year and which we plan to operate again in 2008.

'The launch of our new Oslo route builds on that strong performance.'

Tony Hallwood, Bristol's aviation development director, said: 'SAS clearly see the huge potential of the south-west market as a leisure destination for Scandinavians.'

Mr Hallwood said that the region was 'a big hit' with Swedes and is set to be just as popular with Norwegian leisure and business passengers.

Oslo will be the 17th capital city served by a direct flight from Bristol international airport.
