Virgin begins flying to Jamaica
30 October 2007
Virgin Atlantic has commenced flights from London Gatwick to Kingston, Jamaica.
The city, which is the airline's eighth destination in the Caribbean and 30th worldwide, will be served by two weekly flights, leaving London on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Virgin chairman Sir Richard Branson and local VIPs were in Kingston to welcome the inaugural flight on 30 October.
The capital is the second Jamaican destination to which Virgin Atlantic flies, with services to Montego Bay in operation since July 2006, carrying over 70,000 passengers to date.
Sir Richard said: 'We are delighted to be able to offer new flights to Jamaica so soon after we launched our Montego Bay services last year. We are doubling Virgin Atlantic's capacity between London and Jamaica to almost 200,000 seats a year.
'These new flights will mean that Jamaicans, many of whom have strong links with the UK, will have competitive fares on offer along with the world class service Virgin Atlantic is renowned for.'
