LAN places largest Latin American Dreamliner order
07 November 2007

Chile's LAN Airlines has ordered 32 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which is the largest Latin American order of the aircraft to date.

The carrier ordered 26 of the planes at a cost of $4.5bn (£2.14bn), with an additional six leased from International Lease Finance Corp.

John Wojick, Boeing's vice-president of sales in Latin America, said the development is testament to the trust that LAN has in the 787 Dreamliner.

'This order reaffirms support for Boeing's Dreamliner from the largest and one of the most profitable airlines in Latin America,' he said.

'With the 787, LAN will be able to provide its passengers with the very best in long-range air travel, including larger windows, higher cabin humidity, more space and a lower cabin altitude.'

LAN is one of three Latin American airlines, along with Aeromexico and Avianca of Colombia, that have committed to orders for the new Boeing aircraft.

So far 51 airlines have placed 736 orders for the Dreamliner, which is due to enter service in 2008.
