Germany visitor numbers rise in 2007
08 November 2007

Germany has continued to exploit the exposure it received from the 2006 Fifa World Cup this year, with an annual rise in visitor numbers in the first eight months of 2007.

There were 37.4m overnight stays by international visitors between January and August this year, 3% more than in the corresponding period in 2006, according to the German National Tourist Office (GTNO).

Some 2.89m overnight stays by Britons made the UK the third most productive source market for Germany this year, behind the Netherlands and the US.

In 2006 a total of 4.5m British overnight stays were spent in Germany, a number that was boosted significantly by the World Cup.

The GNTO has identified a number of areas that can boost the exposure of the country in the eyes of travellers, including its suitability as a city break destination and a location for active as well as recreational holidays.

A stall at this year's World Travel Market in London will promote the historic towns, Christmas markets, hot spas and other 'numerous possibilities' for winter holidays that are available in Germany.
