UK tourism 'expects growth in 2008'
12 November 2007
The UK outbound tourism industry is confident of further growth in business and revenue next year, according to a new survey.
Over half of the outbound tour operators polled by Travelmole and public relations company BGB said they saw modest growth in turnover in 2007, while 22% said they enjoyed strong increases.
Some 58% of the operators said they expect further increases in 2008 and 27% said they were confident of strong increases.
Nearly two-thirds of domestic tour operators said they saw modest growth in 2007 and only 4% said they experienced strong business increases.
The sluggish market was blamed partly on this year's disappointing summer weather.
Some 45% of outbound operators said that long-haul destinations were their best sellers this year, followed by short-haul holidays (34%), trips to western Europe (19%) and breaks within the UK (7%).
