Annual passenger increase for BAA in October
13 November 2007
Airports operators BAA has released its passenger statistics for October, revealing that 13.2m travellers passed through its UK hubs in the month, 3.5% more than at the same time last year.
Heathrow and Gatwick's figures continued to benefit from comparison with 2006 following the introduction of new security rules in August last year with traffic increases of 3.8% and 4.9% respectively.
Edinburgh airport saw a monthly passenger increase of 5% in October while Aberdeen handled 6.6% more customers.
It was not all good news in Scotland, however, as Glasgow airport was the only of BAA's hubs not to report growth in traffic, with a 1.8% fall in passenger numbers.
Among UK airports' key markets there was marked growth in North Atlantic routes, with passenger growth of 8.9% in October, compared to 4.1% in September.
Overall long-haul traffic saw an improvement, with an 8.5% increase in passenger numbers last month.
The higher number of travellers passing through BAA airports in October was reflected in a 1.3% rise in air transport movements.
