Frankfurt handles more passengers in 2007
14 November 2007

Fraport, the group that operates Frankfurt airport, has released figures showing that passenger numbers at the hub increased this year, despite ongoing capacity constraints.

Between January and September this year Frankfurt's passenger numbers increased by 2.1% compared to the same period of last year.

Profit for Fraport increased by some 9% in the first nine months of the year and the group has consequently raised its traffic and revenue forecasts for the entire year.

Dr Wilhelm Bender, chairman of the executive Fraport board, said that the group is expected to develop 'very positively' in 2007.

Overall, passenger numbers at Frankfurt are expected to see an annual rise of 2% this year, despite the restrictions on capacity at the hub and the strong positive effect of the World Cup in 2006.

There have been facility improvements at Frankfurt recently, with five A380-compatible docking positions now in place at the airport. In the coming weeks, preparations will begin for the construction of pier A0 at terminal one, which will eventually provide capacity for another 6m passengers per year.
