UK, Antigua liberalise air travel
14 November 2007

The UK and the Caribbean island of Antigua have signed an air services agreement liberalising plane travel between the two countries.

Today's deal removes nearly all of the remaining restrictions on air travel between the UK and Antigua.

Jim Fitzpatrick, minister for aviation, and Antiguan minister for tourism and civil aviation Harold Lovell signed the agreement in the House of Commons.

Mr Fitzpatrick said he was 'very pleased' to sign the accord, which he claimed will benefit passengers, the aviation industry and the Antiguan tourism market.

'It confirms the already close links that exist between our two countries,' he added.

'And it represents another step forward in liberalising air services by removing out-dated restrictions on airlines' ability to fly people to the places they want to go.'

Antigua is located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean, north of the islands of Montserrat and Guadaloupe.
