Ski resorts opening across globe
15 November 2007

Following the announcement from the Austrian tourist board that a number of ski destinations in the country are opening early, resorts in Canada and Norway have also confirmed they are opening their slopes to visitors.

Tourism association Innovation Norway confirmed that the country's largest resort, Trysil, opened on 15 November, which will be followed by Hemsedal the next day.

Oslo, Voss, Roldal, Hafukelifjell and Hovden are expected to open in the next few weeks.

Catherine Foster of Innovation Norway said: 'With some great snowfall already in our main resorts it looks set to be a fantastic year for skiing in Norway.'

The Canadian Tourism Commission confirmed that, following an 'intense' storm system the Whistler Blackcomb Mountain will be opening this week, ahead of the planned opening date of 22 November.

Resort manager Doug MacFarlane said: 'We have a great leg up on the season.

'Natural snowfall and our snowmaking efforts have allowed for the early opening on Whistler Mountain that skiers and riders have been hoping for.'
