Substantial long-haul growth for Gatwick in October
15 November 2007

Gatwick airport has released its passenger figures for October, revealing that it saw 13.1% more long-haul traffic in last month than during the same period in 2006.

North American traffic was one of the strongest contributors to the growth, with a year-on-year increase of 11.3% in passenger numbers.

The European scheduled market also attracted more interest from fliers, with 9.6% more people using these routes in October 2007 than last year.

Andy Flower, managing director of the airport, said: 'I am delighted that Gatwick airport is enjoying such positive growth in the North American and long-haul markets.

'The diverse range of flights has stimulated the growth in Gatwick's passenger numbers, which will reach 35m a year by the end of 2007.'

The London hub handled over 3m passengers in October, which represents annual growth of 4.9%, exceeding the overall increase of 3.5% across all seven of BAA's UK airports.
