Cape Town launches safety strategy
22 November 2007
The City of Cape Town has launched a comprehensive safety and cleansing strategy to ensure that people visiting the destination in the forthcoming holiday season enjoy a safe trip.
Various departments will join forces to implement the plan to keep the city clean and safe, including the metro police, traffic services and law enforcement agencies.
All eventualities will be anticipated by the strategy, which will be 'well-oiled, smooth [and] efficient', according to councillor Dumisani Ximbi.
Mr Ximbi added: 'The City of Cape Town extends a warm welcome to all visitors and wishes to reassure them that the city will do its utmost to enhance their comfort and safety.
'At the same time, we appeal to visitors and residents to help keep the city clean and safe during the holiday period.'
Over a million people are expected to visit Cape Town over South Africa's peak summer holiday season and boost the local economy to the tune of 15.6bn rand (£1.1bn).
