Delta launches Nigeria services
04 December 2007

American carrier Delta Air Lines has launched its first flights from the US to Nigeria this week, which it claims are the only services between North America and the African country.

The operator began flying non-stop from its Atlanta hub to Lagos in Nigeria on 3 December.

This is the latest development in Delta's African network, as it already offers flights from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa via Senegal and a link between New York JFK and Accra, Ghana.

Glen Hauenstein, Delta's executive vice-president of network planning and revenue management, said this was the beginning of the next wave of service expansion between the US and Africa.

'As a leader in global aviation, we continuously look to develop high potential new markets,' he added.

'Africa has a significant and rapidly growing demand, and we're proud to be the only US airline to offer service to the continent.'

Next year Delta plans to launch new services to Nairobi, Kenya; Cape Town, South Africa; and Cairo, Egypt.
