Action plan launched for Edinburgh
04 December 2007
The Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) has launched an action plan designed to boost tourism in the Scottish capital.
Targets have been set for the city's travel market, including a goal for it to achieve 63% revenue growth by 2015.
Among the projects that will be launched to help attain this is a 'Dragon's Den' style event, which will involve tourism leaders and consider ideas on how Edinburgh can collaborate more closely with Glasgow.
There will also be a study of Edinburgh's cultural venues and whether they require investment as well as a second 'Taste of Edinburgh' event.
It is hoped that the Scottish capital's tourism industry can eventually be transformed into a £2.77bn sector.
Tourism minister Jim Mather said: 'This ambitious action plan will both complement and drive forward the work already undertaken by ETAG and its partners.
'The Scottish government is committed to supporting the tourism industry, learning from successes like ETAG, increasing visitor numbers and positioning Scotland as a global leader in tourism.'
