10 December 2007
International air passenger traffic continued to increase in October this year, according to the latest figures from the Airports Council International (ACI).
There was an overall year-on-year increase of 6%, according to the statistics, which comprised an 8% rise in international demand and 4% growth in domestic services.
Africa saw particularly strong growth, which was driven by Egypt, Morocco and South Africa.
Similar success was recorded in Latin America, with Mexico, Argentina and Peru leading the growth trends, while Brazil experienced success in its domestic market.
In the North American market, New York JFK airport has been one of the success stories of the year, with figures suggesting that it could reach 50m passengers a year by the end of 2007.
This would represent an increase of over 10% on the numbers recorded in 2006.
