High-end tourist facility opened in Kenya
11 December 2007
A new facility has been opened in Kenya that is hoped to attract an audience of high-end tourists.
The Ol Lentille lodge has opened its doors in the African country's Lakipia district, Nairobi's Business Daily reports.
Kenya's hospitality industry intends the 30m shilling (£231,000) establishment to help reposition the nation as a premium tourist destination.
Dan Kagagi, chief executive officer of Tourism Trust Fund, said that the lodge is an indicator of the sort of products that visitors to Kenya will be offered in the future.
'Through this project we hope to learn new concepts that will enable us to maintain facilities that attract low volume but high yield tourists,' he added.
The Ol Lentille lodge could also be used as a trial for eco-tourism in Kenya, a sector of the market that, according to the UN World Tourism Organisation, is growing at a rate of 20-30% a year.
Kenya, which is located in eastern Africa, has one of the continent's most developed tourism industries, partly owing to the popularity of going on safari in the country.
